About The Meath
The Meath Epilepsy Charity is a long-established specialist provider supporting adults living with complex epilepsy, often alongside learning and/or physical disabilities and wider health needs. Based in Godalming, Surrey, it brings together residential provision, day opportunities and specialist support within a single, well-connected local setting.
Founded in 1892, The Meath began as a home at Westbrook House. While the organisation has evolved significantly over time, its purpose has remained consistent: to provide a safe, supportive environment where people with epilepsy can live well and be recognised for their strengths and potential.
A Specialist Care Community
The Meath’s services are centred on its site in Godalming, operating across eight services supported by shared facilities, including a Skills Centre, café and community spaces.
The organisation supports adults with some of the most complex forms of epilepsy. All live with additional health conditions or disabilities, requiring highly tailored care, strong clinical insight and a consistent approach to risk, safety and wellbeing.
This creates a distinctive model: a specialist, village-like community where continuity of care, shared expertise and strong relationships underpin day-to-day delivery.
What The Meath Provides
The Meath delivers a comprehensive range of services, including:
Residential care and supported living
Day opportunities and skills development
Specialist clinical, wellbeing and therapeutic support
Community facilities and activities designed to promote independence and inclusion
The organisation’s Skills Centre is a key part of this offer, providing structured opportunities for individuals to develop confidence, social skills and independence through tailored programmes.
Quality, Governance and Improvement
The Meath is a regulated care provider with a clear ambition to deliver consistently high standards across all of its services.
As with many complex, multi-service organisations, there is an ongoing focus on strengthening consistency of practice, enhancing governance arrangements, and embedding robust quality assurance processes. This reflects both the scale and complexity of the service, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
The organisation has invested in leadership capacity, systems and specialist roles to support this agenda, and is focused on achieving the highest possible standards of care and outcomes.
Scale and Sustainability
The Meath is a well-established charity of meaningful scale, combining care delivery with the disciplines of long-term financial sustainability and stewardship.
Its funding model brings together local authority commissioning, charitable income and wider stakeholder engagement. This creates a stable platform from which to operate existing services while also exploring opportunities for growth and development.
Culture and Values
The Meath’s culture is grounded in a clear and practical set of values which shape how care is delivered and how colleagues work together:
Collaborative
Caring
Proud
Inclusive
Empowering
Together, these values reflect an environment that is person-centred, respectful and focused on enabling individuals to achieve their potential.
A Period of Development
The Meath is entering an important phase in its evolution. With a strong heritage and an established specialist reputation, the focus is now on strengthening consistency, building leadership capability and positioning the organisation for its next stage of development.
For senior leaders, this represents an opportunity to operate in a highly specialist environment, contributing both strategically and operationally to the ongoing development of services, culture and performance.
